A new trucking company typically needs commercial auto liability (usually $1,000,000, with FMCSA filings like the BMC-91), motor truck cargo (commonly $100,000), and physical damage on financed equipment. Depending on your operation and contracts you may also need general liability, trailer interchange, or non-trucking liability. We build the right package for new authorities and file everything with FMCSA.
Yes. New authorities can absolutely get insured — we specialize in new-venture trucking. New authorities pay higher rates at first, but rates typically improve at your first and second renewal as you build history. Start with your USDOT number on our site and we handle the FMCSA filings.
An owner-operator leased to a carrier is usually covered by the carrier's liability while under dispatch, but needs bobtail/non-trucking liability for driving off dispatch, physical damage for their truck, and often occupational accident coverage since 1099 drivers usually aren't covered by workers' comp.
Bobtail liability covers you when driving your truck without a trailer attached. Non-trucking liability (NTL) covers you when driving off dispatch, on personal time, whether or not a trailer is attached. Both fill the gap left by a motor carrier's liability policy for leased owner-operators.
Freight brokers don't touch the freight, but still carry risk. Brokers typically carry contingent cargo, contingent auto liability, general liability, and the BMC-84 surety bond required to operate. We package all of this for freight brokers.
We're licensed in Texas, California, Florida, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Indiana, Minnesota and North Dakota, and we also serve Puerto Rico — with more states on the way.
